Professor Karam Tej Singh Sarao (K.T.S. Sarao) completed his Master of Arts in History, Master of Philosophy in Chinese and Japanese Studies, and Doctor of Philosophy in Origins of Buddhism at Delhi University. He also received Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University.
Professor Sarao joined the faculty of Buddhist Studies Department of Delhi University in 1996 where he is a Full Professor and Department Head. He has been a visiting professor and a visiting fellow in Taiwan, Korea, France, Singapore, United Kingdom and Canada.
Professor Sarao’s fields of specialization include Indian Buddhism, Indology, Engaged Buddhism, Ancient South Asian history & civilization, Pali language & literature, and Ancient Indian Epigraphy.
Professor Sarao has published more than 30 papers on Buddhism and related topics in international conferences and journals. He is also an author of more than 10 books on Buddhism, and history on India, China and Japan. Professor Sarao is also a recipient of major fellowships, grants and awards from India and United Kingdom.
